ART Midrange CS&VTS

ART Midrange CS & VTS is a high-resolution radar system designed to address the demands of the Security and Defense markets in two key applications: blue border surveillance / coastal critical infrastructure protection and marine traffic monitoring (Vessel Traffic Service or VTS).

With an instrumental detection range of 6 or 12 nautical miles, ART Midrange CS & VTS provides constant 24/7 wide area surveillance thus becoming a key element for blue border surveillance or the protection of coastal critical assets. ART Midrange detects and tracks small boats during their approach to coastal critical infrastructure security perimeters, such as harbors or refineries, thus providing an invaluable early warning of the potential threat. The system maintains a high probability of detection for demanding targets such as inflatable or wooden low-profile boats while keeping an overall low false alarm rate. ART Midrange CS & VTS features a state-of-the-art radar processor that can also provide simultaneous ground surveillance (ground target detection and tracking).

ART Midrange CS & VTS adaptive detection and track-before-detect algorithms are the result of more than 10 years of experimental R&D in the field of sea clutter mitigation techniques. As a consequence of this deep theoretical and empirical understanding of radar sea backscatter, ART Midrange CS & VTS exceeds the nominal performance specifications for a VTS radar system (basic, standard and even certain aspects of advanced IALA V-128 recommendation profiles).

The use of external sources of knowledge across all the levels of the system (geographic information, historic intrusion data) guarantees a high detection probability and false alarm rejection even in strong ground clutter environments (knowledge-aided sensor signal processing).

The ease of integration is another key benefit of ART Midrange CS & VTS. An internal Gigabit Ethernet Switch, external optronic platform interfaces or the broad range of communication protocols available (NMEA0183, XML-based, ASTERIX), are some of the characteristics that allow a straightforward integration of the radar within a sensor network or preexisting security infrastructure.

Designed to improve the efficiency of its end users (Border Guards/CIP Security Services/Public Law Enforcement Services/Merchant Marine Coastal Surveillance), ART Midrange CS & VTS features fully automatic operation (suitable for non-trained operators), remote management and is cost effective both for large and small scale deployments.
